Peter Grant and a large cast head to Scotland for this entry in the Rivers of London series. Ostensibly on holiday, they're actually tracking sightings of a big cat, which spirals into sightings of lots of other unexpected phenomena.
It's got all the classic elements of the series, mixing police procedural with urban fantasy. There's lots of action for some of the second tier characters, and in fact around half the book is presented from Abigail's point of view. This was frequently confusing because I'd pick the book back up and go straight into a first-person paragraph without having remembered who I was aligned with.
I also found that the large cast gave me trouble always remembering who was who. For a series that started small it's grown to a much larger team than I have any memory of, and as often with this series I'm left feeling like I've missed out on stuff changing by not reading the graphic novels.
But I still enjoyed reading this and will continue with the series. I especially liked Abigail's adventures, getting to see this world from her perspective, and her character develop and have some fun.
