I think you missed off some of the better quotes from that article:
"He's got this great amount of presence like he carries something so great within him."
"He's like a god in a mortal body," added Hector Rodriguez. "I think he's just showing everyone there's nothing that man cannot do. He can do everything and anything."
I don't think it is necessary to quote the OED on this one, they probably know what the word 'holy' means. It's apt that this is being filmed in New York, rather than in London; over in 'Jesusland', everyone’s a hero and people are only too eager to praise somebody, no matter how unimportant or stupid they may be. David Blaine is a mediocre magician who somehow lures people in with his spaced-out style of performance and disjointed murmurings.
Incidentally, regarding the "Blaine will attempt to break the world record by holding his breath for nine minutes whilst trying to escape from heavy chains." claim. Mark Harris of the British Free Diving Association recently said that Blaine would have an unfair advantage as he is breathing compressed air which would increase his blood oxygen concentration. I doubt it would be classified as a valid ‘world record’; it’s hardly fair to group him in with free divers who actually commit human feats of endurance for sport.
Move along now, nothing to see here.
